Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and visiting Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita discussed joint efforts to combat Iran’s influence in the region and boost bilateral security cooperation, US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a readout.
“[Pompeo and Bourita] discussed opportunities to expand our strong economic and security cooperation, including shared efforts to end Iran’s support for terrorism and counter its malign influence in the region,” Nauert said on Monday.
Pompeo and Bourita also agreed to hold the next session of the US-Morocco Strategic Dialogue in Washington, DC next year and discussed other regional and international issues, the readout added.
Morocco and the United States share common concerns and consult closely on security, political and economic issues and sustainable development, according to published reports.
