Rabat – Rent-seeking economy is a “heavy legacy” that should be fought “according to a participatory approach,” said on Monday Head of government Abdelilah Benkirane, at the monthly session of the House of Representatives on general policy.
“We must move forward in the fight against the rent-seeking economy, while respecting the law and within the framework of political compromise,” he said, estimating that this fight will be “lengthy.”
While acknowledging the existence of a number of obstacles to that goal, Benkirane said that economic and political reasons were behind the encouragement of the rent-seeking economy.
The government, however, made some achievements in this area, including the activation of the recommendations of regulators, improving institutional governance and the recovery of certain lands of the Sodea (Agricultural Development Corporation) and Sogete (Agricultural Land Management Corporation), whose operators have not complied with the specifications, said Benkirane.
