Digital map maker NAVTEQ and French car maker Peugeot have teamed up to offer “the first ever factory fitted navigation system in Morocco.“
The Peugeot WIP NAV system with the NAVTEQ Map will be offered as an option on the Peugeot 207, 308, 3008 and 5008 models.
NAVTEQ map of Morocco features 75,000 kilometres of road network and 41,000 Points of Interest. NAVTEQ started to build its Moroccan map in 2009, slightly later than its competitor TomTom/Tele Atlas, that had a first map in 2008, even if TomTom only started to distribute its PNDs in the country in 2010 (read here).
But the global map providers are not the only one in the game, a local GIS company called NavCities is compiling local maps for Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauretania and has Garmin and mobile navigation vendor Sygic as a customers (read here).
Morocco has an estimated 2 million cars on the road.
