LIMA, Sept 24 (BERNAMA-NNN-ANDINA) — Trade between Peru and Arab countries surpassed US$250 million in 2011, Peru’s Foreign Trade Society (ComexPeru) said Sunday.
Exports from Peru to Arab region reached US$104.4 million and imports totalled US$148.1 million.
According to the National Superintendency of Tax Administration (Sunat), the main destination countries in 2011 are Algeria (US$47.3 million), Morocco (US$20.6 million), Egypt (US$10.3 million), United Arab Emirates (UAE) with US$6.8 million and Saudi Arabia (US$4.4 million).
Countries that showed a considerable growth compared to 2010 are Tunisia (435 percent), Mauritania (200 percent) and Bahrain (167.9 percent).
On the other hand, in the same year the main suppliers are Bahrain (US$47.6 million), Saudi Arabia (US$43.8 million), Qatar (US$22.7 million), Morocco (US$16.1 million) and the UAE (US$8.3 million).
The main exported products to the Arab world in 2011 were zinc ores and zinc concentrates (US$46.6 million) which recorded an increase of 1.1 percent, as well as lead ores and lead concentrates (US$17.5 million) and safety auto glasses (US$4.9 million) which registered a 17.1 percent rise.
