Versatile musical group Passamezzo are passing through Totnes on Friday, February 17 to give a concert of music from the Tudor and Stuart period before embarking on an exciting trip to Morocco. The five actors and musicians are currently involved in the Entertaining Morocco project. Collaborating with a group of Moroccan Sufi musicians, they will be exploring how to make music together before travelling to Marrakesh and Essouaira to perform in a series of concerts and workshops. Their concert is a diverse mix of lute songs and madrigals, theatre and masque songs, dance tunes and even a devotional song or two. They perform at the United Free Church at 7.30pm.

Ensemble take part in three charity performances

Charities in Devon and Somerset will benefit from a series of concerts by classical music group The Honeymead Ensemble. For the third year running, legal firm Ashfords is supporting three concerts by the Ensemble, which includes world-renowned musicians led by violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, whose family home is on Exmoor. She is joined by prize-winning cellist Bartholomew LaFollette and pianist Tom Poster.

Two piano trios will be performed – Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio in F Major and Beethoven’s last trio The Archduke. The first concert, in aid of Exeter Cathedral’s Third Millennium Fund, is at the cathedral on Thursday, April 19. The second, on Friday, April 20, is at Dulverton Church in aid of the Calvert Trust and D&S Hunt Club. The final concert, on Saturday, April 21 at St Mary’s Church in Taunton, is in aid of Go Commando and in association with Taunton School.

Event’s benefit to hospice is a racing certainty

Exeter Racecourse and Conference Centre is giving its full support to local charity Hospiscare by offering anyone who attends its Charity Wedding Fayre on February 19, organised by Exeter West Lions, a free ticket to come racing at the course on March 6.

It’s the first ever time a wedding fayre has been held at the racecourse which has donated the venue free of charge. It hopes it will help raise a substantial amount of money for Exeter-based Hospiscare which gives high-quality care and dedicated support to people who are terminally ill.

Conference and events manager Michelle Thomas said: “We would like to encourage as many people to come along as possible, both to see the fabulous array of tradestands and the catwalk show.

Organiser Valerie Dodd of Exeter West Lions added: “Last year our event raised more than £3,000 for the Children’s Hospice South West and we are hopeful of raising even more this year.”

The wedding fayre will be officially opened at 10am by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Exeter and takes place until 4pm. Catwalk shows taking place at 11.30am and 2.30pm. The fayre is free to enter although donations are welcome.
