The Paseo Arts District will kick off the new year with its First Friday Gallery Walk on Paseo on Jan. 6-7. The free event features many special events and exhibits.
The Paseo Art Space, at 3022 Paseo, the home of the Paseo Arts Association, will feature a “Paseo Showcase” during the event. Works of art representing each of the 20 galleries on the street will be on display.
In Your Eye Gallery will present Black & White — “Black Tie Optional,” featuring works from that gallery’s artists. Using their diverse talents in painting, mixed media, fiber art, photography, glass and jewelry, the artists have put together a dramatic body of work limited to a black-and-white palette, with the occasional hint of purposeful color peeking through.
The gallery will host an opening reception from 6 to 10 p.m.
Galleries will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. Jan. 6 and from noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 7. The district features more than 70 artists, three restaurants, a gift store, clothing boutiques and more.
In October 2010, the Paseo was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Greatest Neighborhoods in the United States” by the American Planning Association, and in 2011 both Travel and Leisure and Forbes magazine praised the Paseo as “one of America’s most transformed neighborhoods.”
On New Year’s Day, JRB Art at the Elms, 2810 N Walker, will welcome 2012 with its annual New Year’s Day exhibit and celebration from 1 to 6 p.m. at the gallery. This month’s exhibit, “Juror’s Choice,” will feature eight new artists from various media. Also on display will be the gallery’s second annual “Calendar Art” show, exhibiting artwork featured in the “JRB Art 2012” wall calendar.
As is the gallery’s custom, guests will be encouraged to taste black-eyed peas, ham, turkey, collard greens, assorted salads, dips and pastries while feasting their eyes on works of art.
