The International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Government of Morocco, the Arab Fund for Social and Economic Development (AFESD), and the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) will co-host a high-level conference in Marrakesh, January 29–30, 2018.
The conference aims to move the dial on discussions on inclusive growth in the Arab world from endorsement to execution. Following up on the 2014 Amman conference “Building the Future: Jobs, Growth, & Fairness in the Arab World,” participants from across the region’s public, private, and non-official spheres will exchange, peer-to-peer, their experiences, lessons, and ideas on how to create more jobs by exploiting new sources and sectors of growth.
They will address how to scale up opportunities for women and youth and better enable government policy to support higher and inclusive growth by promoting entrepreneurship and innovation while embracing transparency and technology to unlock the region’s potential.
Day 1 is dedicated to interactive innovation labs to solicit stakeholders’ experience with impediments to growth and inclusiveness and brainstorm on possible solutions and policy issues to be raised at the plenary sessions.
Day 2 features plenary sessions and a concluding high-level panel moderated by IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde. The objective is to engage on issues raised during the innovation labs and seek views on practical solutions to overcome hurdles to inclusive growth. Innovation booths will showcase promising ideas from the region’s youth to help expand opportunity for all.
