One in two Moroccan women experience domestic violence

Domestic violence is widespread in Morocco affecting 54% of Moroccan women, said a survey by family and solidarity ministry.

The survey covered all Moroccan regions and found that 55.8% of urban women and 51.6% of rural women have suffered forms of violence.

Women aged 25-29 were most likely to endure violence, the survey showed, adding that more than half have suffered violence during engagement period.

Some 12.4% of women aged between 18 and 64 were beaten in public places, the survey said.

Despite the prevalence of violence, only 6.6% of Moroccan women reported against their aggressor.
