THE Public Service Commission has farewelled five students who were given the 2012 Moroccan Government scholarship.
PSC permanent secretary Parmesh Chand said the five students were the best of a large number of students who had initially applied for the scholarship.
During the farewell function early this week, Mr Chand thanked the Moroccan government for providing a wonderful opportunity to the people of Fiji.
He said being selected for the Moroccan government scholarship was indeed a genuine highlight in the lives of the five students.
“This is your opportunity to meet new people and to forge new friendships,” he said.
“This is your opportunity to exchange ideas with your counterparts but most importantly this is your opportunity to prove yourself to your families, to government and to Fiji,”
Mr Chand assured the five students that the journey would not be plain sailing and that they needed to keep proving to their lecturers and the university that they could achieve standards set by them.
“The success of the Fiji government’s partnership with Morocco relies heavily on students performances,” he said.
“It is encouraging to know that we are being ably assisted in this regard by the Moroccan government.
“The program allows for participants to attend many reputable institutions in Morocco.”
Mr Chand said they expected students to economise well and ensure that all allowances provided by both the Fiji government and the Moroccan government would be sufficient to sustain the student.
The Fiji government contributed through the provision of airfares and supplementary allowance of $3500 in the first year.
Scholarship recipient Filimoni Naliva said he was happy to be selected by the Moroccan government and he also thanked the Fiji government for their support.
