PARIS, April 18 (KUNA) — The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Morocco are to co-chair a conference on African development in Rabat April 19-22 in the run-up to the OECD World Forum that will take place in India later this year, the organisers said in a statement Wednesday.
The OECD, which comprises more than 30 of the world’s most industrialised nations, will be teaming up with the High Commission of Morocco for the Rabat event, which is being dubbed “Measuring Well-Being and Fostering the Progress of Societies.” There is growing emphasis on the need to improve ways in which development or progress is measured in society and also on how to gauge well-being and progress in different arenas.
The later Indian forum, scheduled for October, will aim to have “frank exchanges of views, sharing of experiences, deepening of knowledge and understanding” through a first-ever African contribution and this “will set the regional agenda,” the Paris-based OECD indicated.
Several other major bodies will take part in the forum discussions, including representatives from UN development bodies, Development Banks and UNESCO.
Regional policy-makers, experts, academics and businessmen and others are also invited, a joint statement from Morocco and the OECD said. (End) jk.rk KUNA 181721 Apr 12NNNN
