In his Op-Ed column in the New York Times, columnist Nicholas Kristof speaks of a “whisker of hope” in Morocco. He speaks approvingly of the reforms that King Mohammed VI announced on Friday, but his words are tempered. He voices hope that the changes will actually come to fruition and that real reform will lead the region from a “stormy Arab Spring to a balmy Arab summer.” He adds his opinion that “Morocco would show Middle Eastern rulers that they can respond to popular pressure with ballots rather than bullets.” Kristof is cautiously hopeful that Morocco will successful navigate the shoals of change.
