Carthage — The official Spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic said that “the important changes taking place in the region provide the Arab Maghreb countries with a historical opportunity to help drag out the Maghreb Union from lethargy to dynamics, in such a manner asto allow a complementary sustainable development.”
He stressed Tunisia’s keenness to build “a new Maghreb regime” which
helps overcome divisions in the region and weakness of the exchanges
to build an open Maghreb space.”
In reaction to the speech of Morocco’s King Mohamed VI, on July 30, on
the Throne Day, the Official Spokesman for the Presidency of the
Republic issued a statement in which he expressed Tunisia’s esteem for
this speech which reasserted “keenness of the Cherifian kingdom to
forge ahead on the path of building of the Maghreb Union, one of the
main priorities of its policy in the region.”
This statement, a copy of which was sent to TAP news agency, stressed
concordance of the Tunisian and Moroccan stands on the need to strive
“to achieve the aspirations of the Great Arab Maghreb peoples as part
of a free, integrated and solidary space.”
In this same connection, the Official Spokesman for the Presidency of
the Republic expressed Tunisia’s consideration “for the concrete steps
that the Moroccan authorities took to support the Maghreb integration
process, notably the increase in its share in the capital of the
Maghreb Investment and Foreign Trade Bank, viewing it as “an
instrument of long-term economic integration between the different
countries of the region.”
