Rabat – The next Maghreban summit will be formal as long as the Moroccan-Algerian borders remain closed, Head of government Abdelilah Benkirane said in an interview Thursday published by the daily “Attajdid”, deeming that the conditions are not met to hold this high level meeting.
“The Moroccan and Algerian peoples are united by ties of friendship and brotherhood, but it is unfortunate that the Algerian leadership has a different opinion on the issue of our territorial integrity”, said Benkirane, referring to the obstinacy of Algeria to reject every Moroccan proposal for a political settlement to the Sahara issue.
Tunisian presidency’s spokesperson Adnan Monser recently evoked an eventual delay of the summit, originally scheduled for October 10 in Tunisia.
