Newark Museum to host Islam art exhibit in 2013

The Newark Museum, 49 Washington St., Newark, is one of four museums selected to host a major exhibition of Islamic art over the next two years.

Organized by Project Director Sabiha Al Khemir for the Brigham Young University (BYU) Museum of Art in Provo, Utah, the exhibition, Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges With the Arts of Islamic Culture, spans Islamic culture from the seventh century to the present and includes more than 250 artworks and artifacts from 40 collections in nine countries including Kuwait, Morocco, Great Britain and the United States.

The exhibition will debut at BYU Museum of Art Thursday, Feb. 24, and is scheduled to open at the Newark Museum on Feb. 13, 2013.

Beauty and Belief will be at the Newark Museum from Feb. 13, 2013 to May 19, 2013; and the Portland Art Museum June 15, 2013 to Sept. 8, 2013.
