From November CMA CGM will have fruit and vegetables transported between Dunkirk and Russia weekly. Two vessels of 1000 TEU have been allocated for this service and as well as Dunkirk will also call on Casablanca, Agadir and Antwerp. According to the deputy director Peter Verheijen, who is involved in the North African trade, Russia is “an important sales market for Moroccan exporters,” since the trade of the fruit sector to Western European markets is decreasing.
In addition two lines will be improved. From the middle of October the Agadir Express will sail weekly. This vessel has the same capacity as the Dunkirk Express vessels and goes to Casablanca, Agadir, Portsmouth and Rotterdam and will also call on
Le Havre before retuning to Casablanca.
Also the line Agadir-Port Vendres will sail more often. From November two vessels of 900 TEU will increase sailing from once to twice a week to transport Moroccan fruit and vegetables from Agadir to Port Vendres in the French Pyrenees. From there the products will be transported by train. According to Verheijen two to three times as much product can be taken to Port Vendres.
With the start of the new service between Morocco and Russia and the changes of the Agadir Express and the Agadir-Port Vendres CMA CGM hope, that the transported volume of Moroccan citrus and ‘something new’ will increase by 50% for the 2012-2013 season.
