Netherlands: Safe products more and more importantTizjara since last year already supply exotic vegetables and is active in wholesale in

Rotterdam. The production of the vegetables takes place in Morocco. “Everything we supply is our own cultivation. This year the production is later than last year because of the longer winter period, but thanks to the very stable summer weather now in Morocco there are sufficient products and of very good quality. The market, as far as the Habanero-pepper is concerned, is perfect. Demand is from all over Europe and prices are good” Hamid Haddouch says. Together with Said Bachaou he controls the company in Rotterdam and Morocco. Tizjara produce and supply products under the name Magnifica.

GlobalGap

Tizjara finds it of major importance to supply safe, healthy and sound products. “We notice that consumers are becoming more interested all the time. Each year we have new objectives in these areas. This year we obtained the GlobalGAP certificate, which means that our products satisfy the strictest requirements. Our vision is therefore: healthy soil is a healthy plant, which results in a healthy product. Our clients are mainly wholesalers all over Europe at the moment and with the GlobalGAP certificate we can also approach supermarkets.”

Organic aims

The company will direct its attention more towards organic production in the future.

“To offer organic products is one of our objectives. It is a growing tendency. Consumers feel good with organic products and want to reward themselves by buying products, which have been produced in a natural way. Taste and an authenticity are sales arguments in this.”

“At the moment we use a minimum of plant protection means for the cultivation and that will be reduced to nil. Shortly we hope to be able to supply organically grown exotic vegetables. Also in the area of packing there will be changes. We are developing a packing now, which contributes to the convenience of the final consumer, which can be used again and looks good. The new packing is expected in October.”
