Netherlands Joins Immigration Partnerships

THE HAGUE, 14/06/12 – The present Dutch government is cautious on immigration. But there is no sign of this around the so-called Mobility Partnerships that the EU is currently concluding with all sorts of countries.

As a result of the partnerships, people from Moldova, Cape Verde, Georgia and Armenia can enter Europe more easily. The accords contain agreements on seasonal work, visas, exchange of students or work, and also on taking back illegals and border guarding.

Negotiations with Tunisia and Morocco are underway. And Egypt and Libya are in the pipeline, after which Azerbaijan and Jordan could follow.

The Netherlands is participating in the accords with Cape Verde, Georgia and Armenia and also in principle wants to participate in the agreements with Morocco, Tunisia and Azerbaijan, says Rob Rozenburg, deputy head of department at the European Commission.
