Rabat – Neonatal mortality rate saw a significant decrease down from 27 cases per 1000 live births to 18.8 in 2011, that is a reduction of 30%, showed a national survey on the population and family health for 2011.
The survey, which was conducted by the Health Ministry between November 2010 and March 2011, showed that this reduction was thanks to the improvement of medical services offered to pregnant women.
The early results of the survey, which were announced on Friday, also showed the stagnation of the total fertility rate at 2.50 (2.15 in urban centers and 3.2 in rural areas).
Following the same decreasing trend, maternal mortality cases plummeted from 227 per 100,000 births during the 1993-2004 period to 112 in 2010.
