Nawal el Moutawakil honoured by IWF in San FranciscoWashington – The International Women’s Forum on Friday night at an Awards Gala, honoured Nawal El Moutawakel, first Arab woman to win gold at the Olympic games, Morocco’s former minister of Youth and Sports, IAAF Council Member and IOC Vice President for her unique experience, a press release of the Moroccan embassy in Washington said.

The forum also honoured Nancy Pelosi, first female speaker of the house of representatives at the US congress, as well as Patricia Summit, a renowned basketball coach.

In a speech, Morocco’s US ambassador, Rachad Bouhlal told the 1200 world figures in politics, sports, business and media, el Moutawakil’s experience reflects the spirit of openness and tolerance, which characterizes Morocco since independence.
The gold medal Moutawakil won in the 400m women event in 1984 will remain in the collective memory of the Moroccan people, as a culmination of this spirit of openness and tolerance under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, the press release added.
The International Women’s Forum (IWF), dedicated to connecting the world’s most preeminent women to advance leadership across careers, cultures and continents, has host its 2012 World Leadership Conference in San Francisco on the theme “Ideas Remaking the World in a New Age of Discovery.”
