Chicago – The Heads of State and Government attending the 25th summit of the Organization of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) welcomed Monday in Chicago the Moroccan initiative for a political Declaration in order to strengthen the Alliance’s Mediterranean Dialogue.

“We welcome the Moroccan-led initiative to develop a new, political framework document for the MD,” said the Final Declaration of this international meeting which was attended by sixty Heads of State and foreign ministers.

NATO Heads of State and Government “look forward to developing it (Moroccan initiative) together soon with our MD partners,” said the Declaration.

They also “encourage the MD partner countries to be proactive in exploiting the opportunities offered by their partnership with NATO.”

Morocco is represented at the summit by Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani who led a delegation.

In a statement to MAP news agency, the Minister stressed that Morocco’s participation in the NATO summit in Chicago is a “recognition of the wisdom and far-sighted vision of HM King Mohammed VI which is reflected on the place of choice” that Morocco enjoys at the international level.

“That’s why the influential regional and international groupings, such as the European Union and the NATO, consider Morocco as an important partner that has demonstrated its ability to contribute to maintaining and consolidating peace and stability throughout the world and especially in the region,” stressed El Otmani.
