Most UPR Recommendations Fall In Line With Choice Of Morocco: Official

Geneva – Morocco is satisfied with the recommendations adopted as part of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) which, in their majority, fall in line with the choice of the Kingdom, Interministerial Delegate for Human Rights, Mahjoub El Haiba said Friday.

Addressing the 13th session of the UPR mechanism after the adoption of the report on Morocco, Mahjoub El Haiba stressed that the Kingdom’s accession to the 140 recommendations contained in the report, 96% of the 148 adopted this session mirrors, once again, that the voluntary commitment of Morocco to promote human rights is an irreversible choice that fits in perfect harmony with the guidelines of the international community, especially with U.N. mechanisms of human rights.

“Thanks to the constitutional and institutional reforms, launched by HM King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, the Kingdom of Morocco is undergoing a decisive phase marked by a strong commitment to strengthen mechanisms of public affairs governance consolidate the guarantees of protection and promotion of human rights and freedoms, as well as the boosting of the democratic edifice,” he said, stressing the commitment of the Government of Morocco to implement the provisions of the Constitution on these issues .

El Haiba also noted that some provisions in the recommendations include more than one issue, rejected by Morocco, could be considered acceptable, particularly those relating to the issue of early marriage.
