Rabat – Morocco’s High Planning Commission (HCP) was elected co-president of the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21) for a two-year term.

According to a statement from the country’s planning authority, this election by acclamation took place during the last meeting of this Council in Paris, from 28 to 30 March, in which the HCP took part as a member representative since March 2009, the region North Africa (composed of 10 countries).

The election “strengthens HCP role in this body and confirms the place of the national statistical system on regional and international scene,” the statement said.

PARIS21 was founded in November 1999 by the United Nations, the European Commission, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank, in response to the UN Economic and Social Council resolution on the goals of the UN Conference on Development.

It seeks to promote, influence and facilitate statistical capacity development and the better use of statistics.
