Chicago (USA) – Morocco’s participation in Summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), held on Sunday and Monday in Chicago, is a recognition for the wisdom and the perspicacious vision of HM King Mohammed VI which is reflected in Morocco’s special place among nations, Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani told MAP on Sunday.
This is the reason why influential regional and international blocs, such as the EU and the Atlantic Alliance, consider that Morocco is an important partner which has showed its capacity to contribute to peacekeeping and stability worldwide and regionally, the minister said on the sidelines of his participation in the summit.
El Otmani said he was “proud to represent HM the King in this event”, underlining that Morocco’s stabilizing role in its regional environment was promoted thanks to reforms undertaken by the Kingdom, under the leadership of the Sovereign, within the framework of Morocco’s specificities, while other countries in the region witnessed revolutions and radical changes.
He highlighted that this stabilizing role is based on the country’s geographical location, stretching in North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel, and the Mediterranean basin.
Saad Dine El Otmani is leading a delegation including Morocco’s ambassador to the USA Rachad Bouhlal and Morocco’s ambassador to the EU Menouar Alem.
Moroccan FM Meets French Peer On Sidelines Of NATO Summit In Chicago
Washington – Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Eddine El Otmani met, on Sunday in Chicago, with his French counterpart Laurent Fabius on the sidelines of the 25th Summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), held May 20-21 in Chicago.
“The fringe meeting was an occasion to survey issues of shared interest and bilateral cooperation, while emphasizing the need for further strengthening the privileged partnership between Rabat and Paris,” Otmani said following the talks.
The situation in the Sahel region was also discussed during the meeting, in addition to the Malian crisis and the Syrian conflict, he said, adding that “we agreed to continue bilateral consultations and dialogue.”
El Otmani met earlier with Portuguese State secretary for Foreign Affairs, who chairs his country’s delegation to the summit. The meeting touched on bilateral ties and the necessity to continue consultations within the different international forums, he noted.
