Rabat – Morocco’s growth rate will not exceed 4.2% in 2012, estimated on Thursday Moroccan Economy and Finance Minister Nizar Baraka.

In light of the economic downturn witnessed in several partner countries, the growth rate of Morocco’s economy is expected to reach no more than 4.2% in 2012, Baraka told reporters before attending the weekly cabinet meeting.

The 2012 appropriation bill, presented last October, was amended to take into account the recent challenges at the international level as well as the goals set in the government programme, he added.

Priority will be thus attached to creating jobs and promoting investment as well as setting up solidarity funds benefiting the poor, Baraka said.

Head of Government, Abdelilah Benkirane, had announced that his cabinet targets a growth rate of 5.5% over 2012-2016.
