Rabat – Chilean Minister of External Relations, Alfredo Moreno Charme, said on Wednesday in Rabat that the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco is “a headway” towards settling the Sahara issue.
Morocco’s proposal is “serious”, “credible” and “realistic,” Moreno told the press after his meeting in Rabat with his Moroccan counterpart, Saad Dine El Otmani.
Chile’s position on the Sahara issue is “known and has not changed,” Moreno Charme said, calling for this dispute to be resolved through negotiations within the framework of the United Nations.
Moreno Charme and El Otmani surveyed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen the partnership in various fields, especially the political and economic fields, and discussed international issues and questions of common interest.
The two ministers welcomed the excellent cooperation relations between Morocco and Chile, expressing keenness to develop efficient actions to strengthen the partnership.
El Otmani highlighted the Kingdom’s interest in Chile as a partner in a region with which Morocco has dynamic relations.
The ministers discussed means to deepen cooperation based on a participatory approach, with the mobilization of economic operators of both countries.
In this regard, the Chilean minister announced his country’s intention to open a trade representation in Casablanca.
At the multilateral level, the two ministers reaffirmed both countries’ steadfast commitment to South-South cooperation.
El Otmani insisted that Morocco, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, will continue to pay special attention to sensitive issues on the agenda of the Council and work for peace, security, human development and the promotion of human rights.
