(ANSAmed) – RABAT, APRIL 20 – The project being run by Redal (a subsidiary of Veolia Environnement Maroc) is nearing completion. It will prevent 200,000 cubic metres of backflow waters from flowing back into the sea or into the Bouregreg river from the Rabat-Sale’ district.
Costing a total of 1.83 billion dirham (approx.. 165 million euros) the project will see a pumping and pretreatment station coming online in the second half of this year, which will cater for effluent waters from Rabat-Temara. Construction of the station follows that of another six pumping stations, enabling all backflow waters to be gathered.
With completion of the project at the end of this year, Redal states that the effects on healthcare, hygiene and improved living conditions will be noticeable for a population estimated at 3 million. As Au Fait reports, the project should provide a boost to economic, social and tourism development in the Rabat area.
A similar system has been planned for the right bank of the river Bouregreg, at Sale and Bouknadel. But completion of this project, due at the end of 2013, may be delayed. (ANSAmed).
