Washington – The means to promote cooperation in the field of the press were at the heart of talks on Friday in Washington between Communication Minister and Spokesperson for the Government Mustapha El Khalfi and senior officials from the US Department of State.
During talks with Tara Sonenshine Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs and Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, El khalfi highlighted the reforms udertaken by Morocco to consilidate the democratic process and implement its new constitution.
The two sides also examined the means to further reinforce cooperation in the field of journalism through the exchange of experience.
The talks were also an opportunity to raise the developments that took place in the Maghreb region.
On the Sahara issue, El Khalfi said that the advanced regionalisation provided for in the supreme law is in line with Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara which was described by Washington on multiple occasion as “serious, credible and realistic.”
The Minister also held a meeting with representatives of Human Rights Watch during which light was shed on the reforms launched in the Kingdom to promote the freedom of the press.
