Morocco, US Agree To Build Strategic Partnership

WASHINGTON, July 27 (BERNAMA-NNN-MAP) — Morocco and the United States have agreed to move together towards a much more ambitious strategic partnership, says Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs Youssef Amrani.

He told MAP news agency after a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns here Thursday: “We discussed bilateral relations and agreed to move towards a much more ambitious strategic partnership, with an element of political dialogue on bilateral, regional and international issues. “Amrani, who began a two-day working visit in Washington on Wednesday, added that both countries, as members of the United Nations Security Council, reviewed what they had achieved together in the Council as part of ongoing consultations and their continuous dialogue which had helped advance many issues.On the Syrian issue, both sides agreed to continue their dialogue in order to create the best conditions for holding in Morocco the next meeting of the Friends of the Syrian People.Amrani also emphasised the “convergence of views and analysis” regarding transitions in some Arab countries, adding that Rabat and Washington agreed to contribute to the joint support of these transitions and conflict resolution.Both sides, moreover, stressed the need to move forward in building the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) and noted the progress made recently in this area, including the prospect of holding an AMU summit soon.– BERNAMA-NNN-MAP
