Istanbul – Morocco has called on the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF) to develop an integrated counter-terrorism approach that enables it to fully discharge its role as a practical mechanism which develops new international strategies to address all forms of terrorism.
The call was made on Thursday by Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani at the opening of the second meeting of the Forum.
The minister warned that terrorism changes strategies and methods, especially by extending to new areas, forging alliances with weapons and drug trafficking criminal networks and through its more and more strong relations with armed separatist movements, which constitutes a real threat to peace and security in the world.
“This worrisome situation prompts us to adapt the Forum’s strategy to these changes in order to make it more effective in the fight against the ever-changing international terrorism,” El Otmani said.
The minister highlighted Morocco’s counter-terrorism efforts, saying that the Kingdom has accumulated extensive experience in this field by adopting a comprehensive preventive strategy in keeping with HM King Mohammed VI’s vision.
This strategy, he continued, consists of strengthening the social fabric and its protection against all forms of extremism, implementing political reforms, upgrading the religious domain and launching development-oriented projects.
Within the framework of the Forum, Morocco will host, on October 17-18, a workshop on transnational security challenges in the South of the Atlantic.
