Lisbon – The Doha Forum “must seize the momentum of the Arab Spring by reinforcing the values of diversity in the national unity and supporting national reconciliation efforts,” said Wednesday in Lisbon, Latifa Akharbach, Secretary of State to the Foreign Minister and National Focal Point for the Alliance of Civilizations.
Akharbach who was speaking in a meeting of focal points of the Alliance of Civilizations in preparation for the Doha Forum due on December 11-13, with the participation of heads of state and government, voiced Moroccos willingness to share its successful experience of national reconciliation, in particular through the participation of Moroccan representatives of civil society and human rights activists in this forum.
In her speech, Secretary of State also called for a match between the actions taken as part of the Alliance of Civilizations and the efforts of the international community to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
Morocco has engaged in a process of democratic consolidation illustrated among others by adopting a new constitution which enshrines in particular the cultural and linguistic diversity, the richness of the components of Moroccan identity and gender equity, Akharbach told the meeting.
