Rabat and Casablanca will host for eight days each the 21st edition of the European Film Weeks, from 19 to 28 November 2012, with a programme that aims at showcasing European art cinema in all its diversity, through movies that were selected or won awards at the best festivals, such as Cannes, Berlin or Venice.

Announcing the festival, the Head of EU Delegation in Morocco, Ambassador Eneko Landaburu, said: “European cinema, rich in its diversity and talent, has showed us since 1991 that it has been regularly followed by an interested and faithful audience in Morocco. This 21st edition, which we would like to be exceptional, will be an open window on European culture and will contribute to the rapprochement between Morocco and the EU.”

Last year’s edition of the European Film Weeks attracted a record audience of more than 10,600 filmgoers for a total of 16 movies shown in Rabat and Casablanca.

The European film weeks, one of the most tangible cultural symbols of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership in Morocco, has been organized in Morocco every year since 1991 by the Delegation of the European Union, in collaboration with the embassies and cultural institutes of the EU member states, under the aegis of the Ministry of Communication and in partnership with the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre.

The EU also funds a regional programme, Euromed Audiovisual, which aims to contribute to intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity through support to building cinematographic and audiovisual capacity in the region. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
