Morocco, Spain Set To Further Reinforce Cooperation Ties

Madrid  –  Morocco and Spain reiterated, on Wednesday, firm willingness to further foster their bilateral cooperation during a meeting between Minister Delegate to the Foreign Minister Youssef Amrani, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Garcia-Margallo and Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Gonzalo de Benito.

Speaking to MAP following the meeting, Amrani voiced satisfaction at the strong relations with Spain which have developed to take the form of an increasingly ambitious partnership.

He noted that the meeting is part of the high level political dialogue between the two countries, adding that the two parties agreed on a road map defining the areas of common action with a view to reinforce bilateral ties. 

It was also agreed to convene a high level Moroccan-Spanish meeting newt Septmeber 12 in Morocco during which several  partnership agreements will be signed.

Concerning the Sahara issue, Amrani highlighted Morocco’s efforts to find a political solution to the regional dispute in line with the resolutions of the Security Council.

He also explained why Morocco withdrew confidence from the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Christopher Ross, saying that he reiterated Morocco’s commitment to continue working together in good faith with Ban Ki-moon to break the deadlock in negotiation and add new momentum to the process.

Amrani added that several international issues were tackled during the meeting, including the threats to security in the Sahel and the latest developments in Mali and Syria.

” I remarked a convergence of views and stands between Spain and Morocco in favour of a planned action to put an end to these hotbeds of tension, notably in our refion,” said Amrani.

The two parties also stressed the need to reinvigorate the Maghreban union.
