A Western Australian oil explorer says Morocco is shaping up as one of the world’s next major oil and gas provinces.

Damon Neaves, of Pura Vida, says the ocean floor off the coast of Morocco is under-explored compared to its neighbours, Ghana and Mauritania.

Mr Neaves says a number of oil discoveries in very deep water off north-west Africa have extremely high grades.

He says the Moroccan Government is offering incentives to companies like his to get a highly lucrative oil industry underway.

“We’re applying your modern seismic technologies to work up these prospects for drilling and to attract the major deep water operators in Africa who are capable of drilling these prospects,” he said.

“And we’ll see a heightened level of exploration and drilling activity in Morocco, the likes of which have not been seen previously.”
