Moscow – Morocco and Russia decided to conduct regular political consultations, at least once a year, to examine issues of shared interest regionally and internationally.
This came in a meeting, Wednesday in Moscow, between Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani and Russian counterpart Sergueï Lavrov.
The talks turned on means and ways to boost bilateral cooperation in the political and economic fields.
The two parties noted that the visit by the Moroccan Foreign Minister to Russia is crucial, considering the role by the two countries internationally, notably within the UNSC.
They stressed efforts made by Rabat and Moscow to ease tension in hot spots in Africa and the Middle East.
El Otmani said that Morocco plays an efficient role within the UNSC to find solutions to crises that rock several regions across the world, highlighting the two countries’ attachment to establishing peace and security worldwide.
The Russian official said he is satisfied with economic and political bonds with Morocco, as well as the convergence of viewpoints on issues of shared interest, noting that both countries are willing to settle disputes, all over the world, through dialogue and peaceful means and on the basis of international legality.
Referring to Syria, he reiterated Morocco’s call to halt violence and respect the peace plan submitted by UN and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.
Lavrov said that his Moroccan peer handed him a message from HM King Mohammed VI to President Dimitri Medvedev, in response to another message from the Sovereign to the Russian Head of State.
El Otmani underlined that the royal message touches on bilateral cooperation.
The two ministers said that the two countries are eager to spur momentum of the joint committee scheduled in Morocco this year and revive the Moroccan-Russian business council to bring the two countries’ economic partners closer.
