Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, supports all Arab efforts aimed at defending the Palestinian cause and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, said Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house), Habib El Malki, in Amman.
Taking the floor at the 29th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), El Malki stressed the need to address the challenges facing the Arab nation, noting that Arab solidarity, cooperation, dialogue and coordination are much needed to defend the Palestinian people.
He also called on Arab MPs to unify ranks to counter the threats and challenges facing all Arab countries, saying “we all need unity, wisdom and foresight, vigilance and collective consciousness, mutual respect and the willingness not to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries”.
El Malki recalled in this regard, the message sent by King Mohammed VI to the 1st Arab-European Summit held recently in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, in which the Sovereign said that “Arab national security must remain an Arab matter, free from any external interference or influence.”
He also spoke about relations and cooperation between Morocco and the Gulf countries, affirming that the partnership existing between Rabat and these countries is strategic and not dictated by short-term interests, as Morocco’s King said in his speech to the Morocco-GCC Summit, held in April 20, 2016, in Riyadh.
The 29th conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) opened Sunday in the Jordanian capital under the title, “Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine.”
The two-day event features debates on building a unified Arab stance on various regional and international issues, the fight against combating terrorism and the rights of women and children, in addition to issues pertaining to parliamentary work.
On the sidelines of the AIPU conference, El Malki met on Monday with Jordanian Prime Minister, Omar Razzaz.
The two sides hailed the excellent relations binding the two countries and the convergence of their views on regional and international issues, including the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinians to establish their independent state with Al Quds as its capital.
El Malki commended during the meeting Jordan’s steadfast position on the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity.
For his part, Razzaz expressed his country’s desire to take advantage of Morocco’s rich experience in the areas of democratic practices, freedoms, rights and socio-economic development.
