Rabat – Morocco played a leading role in supporting the Libyan revolution as part of the contact group on Libya, Chairman of the National Transitional Council (NTC), Mustapha Abdeljalil, said.

“Morocco played a leading role concerning the situation in Libya through the contact group () and HM the King had sent me a special envoy to Benghazi since the first months of the revolution,” Abdeljalil said in an interview in Benghazi with ‘Médi 1 TV’ channel, broadcast on Sunday.

Morocco recognized officially, on August 22nd, the NTC as “unique and legitimate” representative of the Libyan people.

Two days later, Moroccan Foreign Minister, Taib Fassi Fihri, was received in Benghazi by NTC Chairman to whom he conveyed a verbal message from HM King Mohammed VI.

During this visit, Fassi Fihri ensured the Libyan officials Morocco’s support in all future steps, either at the political level or with regard to all issues relating to the rebuilding and urbanization of the country.
