Morocco’s navy will be bolstered with the acquisition of two Spanish patrol boats made by Navantia, stateowned shipbuilding company, which offers its services to both military and civil sector.
The deal, worth €260 million, was reported by Far-Maroc, a website specializing in Moroccan defense news. “Morocco is in a pressing need of patrol boats of such quality as it seeks to assert its sovereignty over its territorial waters,” Far-Maroc said.
The boats, dubbed Avante 1400 boats, designed to patrol coastlines, have a capacity for 35 crew members and 29 additional people as well as a landing space for a helicopter.
Navantia also operates a plant in Casablanca specializing in maintenance and boat part making for Morocco’s navy.
Navantia is the fifth-largest shipbuilder in Europe, and the ninth-largest in the world with shipyards around the globe.
