Morocco has joined the global compact for Universal Health Coverage 2030 (UHC 2030), Morocco’s Health Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Morocco joined the compact after signing it on the sidelines of a World Health Organization ministerial meeting on “the Road to UHC in the Eastern Mediterranean,” held on Sept. 3 to 5 in Oman, the statement said.

This convention consolidates the commitment of Morocco in favor of the generalization of medical coverage by 2030, it said.

According to the ministry, Morocco is considering effective implementation of the health coverage system for self-employed workers exercising a liberal activity at the beginning of 2019.

The UHC 2030 Global Compact aims to build a political momentum and advocate for sufficient, appropriate and well-coordinated resource allocations to health systems.

By joining UHC2030, signatories will have access to a network of global health experts and the chance to share experiences and work collectively to strengthen health systems. Enditem
