Morocco in the News – August 12, 2011

On the business side, Reuters reports that the Moroccan government on Friday cancelled for the second time in less than a year a tender for the sale of part of its 30-percent stake in Maroc Telecom. The revival of the stake sale has prompted opposition parties, mostly from the Islamist Justice and Development Party (PJD), to summon Finance and Economy Minister Salaheddine Mezouar to parliament for explanations.

From the macroeconomic perspective, Morocco expects its energy-importing economy to grow by between 4.7 and 5.2 percent in 2012, assuming an oil price 33 percent higher than the basis for this year’s budget.
