The fourth international symposium on the role of media in anti-hatred speech, organized by the independent standing commission for human rights, an affiliate of the Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the High Commissioner of the UN for human rights in collaboration with the Moroccan government, began in the Moroccan capital Rabat.
Mustafa Al-Rumaid, Morroco’s acting minister of human rights; Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, secretary general of the OIC, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Twaijri, director general of the ISESCO; Jiani Azini, representative of the UN high commission for human rights; Meed S. K Kajwa, Chairman of OIC’s the independent standing commission for human rights; Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja, Saudi ambassador to Morocco; and a number of Islamic countries ambassadors accredited to the north African Arab country were present at the symposium.
Addressing the gathering, Al-Rumaid said the freedom of speech in the world is among the most important mechanisms to enhance the values of tolerance and spread of peace but should be limited whenever used to spread hatred among people or call for terror and extremism, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
