Rabat — HM King Mohammed VI had, Friday, a telephone conversation with HM King Abdullah of Jordan, HM the King’s office said in a statement.
HM the King expressed to the Jordanian king full solidarity of Morocco with Jordan which is facing, for months now, a huge flow of Syrian refugees fleeing growing violence in their country.
The two sovereigns discussed the scope and seriousness of the humanitarian crisis in Syria since the outbreak of hostilities, leaving 20,000 dead and forcing hundreds of thousands of Syrian civilians, including women and children, to leave their houses and take refuge, with no resources, in neigbouring countries, including Jordan.
Given the escalation of violence, the statement continued, the number of these refugees is growing steadily and their moral and material situation is extremely alarming.
The statement added that “given the seriousness of the situation, and in order to alleviate the burden weighing on Jordan and support its commendable efforts in this regard, HM the King decided to dispatch an important Moroccan specialised mission with a sizeable logistical and humanitarian support.”
Through this contribution, “the Kingdom of Morocco also expresses its full solidarity with the brotherly Syrian people, in these painful, tragic times of its history.”
