FIFA Club World Cup 2012
(ANSAmed) – ROME, DECEMBER 18 – Morocco is preparing to host the next FIFA Club World Cup in 2013 -2014.

The event which replaces the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, rolled to a close in Tokyo Sunday with Brazilian team Corinthians battering Chelsea 1-0 to take the title. It marked a disappointing end to the competition – hosted for the second consecutive year by Japan, for Egyptian team Al Ahly who were seen off by Chelsea in the semi finals. But in the next two years North Africa will have the chance to rebuild its hopes. King Mohammed VI has described the 2013-2014 cup as one of the most important sporting events in the country’s history. It opens a run of prestigious footballing tournaments in Morocco which climax in 2015 with the African Nations Cup. FIFA Club World Cup games will be played in Agadir and Marrakech.

Before Japan, the United Arab Emirates hosted the event for two consecutive years in 2009-2010.

The decision follows the same logic as the rotation of the continents used by FIFA for the World Cup. In 2014 the tournament will be played in Brazil; in 2018 in Russia, and in 2022 in Qatar. (ANSAmed)
