Frozen shellfish and fresh fruit and veg among the top exports

According to data elaborated by the Federation of Food Industries (www.fenagri.org), Moroccan exports of agricultural and food products continued to grow in the first half of 2015, reaching a total of 22.5 billion dirhams (equal to approximately 2 billion Euro).

The following are Morocco’s top exports in the first six months of 2015 by product category:

– 15% of frozen shellfish (310 million Euro);
– 12% of canned fish (247 million Euro);
– 10% of fresh tomatoes (214 million Euro).

Fruit was also a major export: 8% of total exports were citrus fruits, followed by fresh melons (3%) and other types of fresh fruit (5%).

The remaining share of exports were comprised of fresh or frozen vegetables (about 7% of the total), followed by shrimp (3%) and other fish-related products (this includes fish powder and fish meal at 3%; fish oils and fats at 2%; and other types of fresh or frozen fish at 4%), fava beans (3%), and olive oil (2%), of which Morocco is the fourth largest producer in the world.

In the first half of 2015 Moroccan exports were mainly destined to the European Union with 67% of total exports (valued at 1 billion and 380 million Euro); other African countries, with 4% of exports (85 million Euro); Japan, with 4% of exports (82 million Euro); and the United States, with 3% of exports (68 million Euro).
