Five new museums will open this year in Morocco. Photography, music and local history will be at the center of projects to be inaugurated in Rabat, Meknes, Tetouan and Marrakech.
The president of the National Museum Foundation, Mehdi Qotbi, presented the cultural plans, including a museum of photography in Rabat, the Dar Jamai in Meknes, dedicated to Morocco’s music history, and, also in Meknes, the Borj Belkari to showcase the history of imperial cities.
There will also be the Bab Okla in Tetouan and the museum Jemaa El Fna, a cultural space for immaterial heritage with the Marrakech square becoming a Unesco world heritage site.
The presentation of the new cultural locations was the occasion to discuss highlights of 2019, including the 140,000 visitors registered at the first Biennial in Rabat, which from September 24 until December 18 celebrated 63 artists from 23 countries.
The National museum foundation, which was created in 2011, is a non-profit organization that manages 13 museums across Morocco. It also has the role of promoting the country’s culture and heritage. (ANSAmed)
