Brussels – The 10th EU-Morocco Association Council, slated on Monday in Luxemburg, will be an occasion for both parties to examine their future relations and means to give momentum to their partnership, knowing that the Association Agreement’s free trade section expired after the dismantling of tariffs in March 2012.
Morocco seeks to conclude with the EU a new contractual framework as provided for in the Lisbon Treaty.
This new contractual framework should lie within the scope of the promotion of trust, solidarity and cooperation which mark partnership between the north African country and the Union.
The action plan for the implementation of the advanced status will constitute a mid-term road map for bilateral cooperation and will prepare for a new statutory phase that could turn into a privileged partnership between Morocco and the Union.
During this session of the EU-Morocco Association Council, the Moroccan delegation, to be chaired by minister delegate to the Foreign Minister Youssef Amrani, will brief the European officials on the political and economic situation in Morocco and highlight the crucial reforms carried out under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
The two parties will assess the implementation of the 2011 Association Agreement, and will underline the diversity of their cooperation which has reached a remarkable level thanks to the joint document on the advanced status and the action plan of the European Neighborhood Policy.
Since the last session of the Association Council in December 2010, the Morocco-EU partnership made huge strides through several pivotal actions such as the adoption by the European parliament of a resolution on Morocco’s participation in community programs and agencies and its vote in favor of the Morocco-EU agriculture agreement.
