Morocco, EU Eager To Reinforce National Priorities

Rabat – Morocco and the Council of Europe agreed to foster national priorities in terms of governance, democracy, human rights and the promotion of the rule of law.

This came in a meeting, on Wednesday in Rabat, between Minister delegate to the foreign minister Youssef Amrani and director general of the Council of Europe’s programs Gabriella Battaini Dragoni.

Amrani said that Morocco and the Council of Europe share the same vision concerning the achievement of these national priorities, adding that through this cooperation, Morocco aspires to have an advanced relation with Europe as part of the advanced status and other statuses of cooperation.

European partners commended the avant-garde role of Morocco in relation with governance, human rights, political reforms and the promotion of the rule of law, he added.

Dragoni underlined that Morocco is the first country with which the EU is having a very close cooperation.

She hailed this partnership with Morocco which was granted the status of a “partner for democracy”, noting that the two parties are finalizing the action plan to work in the fields of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

The European official affirmed that the Council of Europe will put its expertise at Morocco’s disposal and intends to cooperate with the National Council for Human Rights, the Mediator Institution and the inter-ministerial delegation on human rights.
