Morocco-EU Agreement: Europe Had To Reward Rule Of Law In Morocco: Says ALDE Group

Strasbourg – The Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the European Parliament, argued on Thursday that the approval of free trade agriculture agreement between Morocco and the European Union, which “rewards” reforms of the Kingdom towards the rule of law and development.

Metin Kazak (Bulgaria), ALDE coordinator in the Parliamentary Committee on International Trade, noted that the Moroccan King “responded to democratic expectations of his people by organizing free elections.”

For his part, Annemie Neyts (Belgium), ALDE Coordinator within the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs (INTA) and rapporteur on Morocco’s participation in EU programs voted on Tuesday, said it was “time to give substance to the advanced status enjoyed by Morocco, and not just at the commercial level.”

As for Niccolo Rinaldi (Italy), rapporteur for ALDE another within the INTA Committee on the regional convention on preferential rules of origin Pan Euro-Mediterranean approved Thursday, noted that this “single, simplified instrument will stimulate the development of South-South trade and thus contribute to economic growth, strengthening of social integration and democratization of the region.”
