Morocco has denounced the coup attempt and the power grab committed against the political transitional institutions in Burkina Faso, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation announced here Wednesday.

In a press release, the Ministry pointed out that the kingdom calls on “the authors of this act to put an end to it and facilitate the return to normal operation of institutions” and urges “all the actors in Burkina Faso to privilege the path of reason and dialogue in order to allow the success of the transitional process by organizing inclusive, transparent and democratic elections”.

“The Kingdom of Morocco supports efforts of the ECOWAS aimed at helping Burkina Faso to return to peace and stability”, added the Ministry.

Elements of the Presidential Guard Regime (RSP) broke into the Presidential palace on Wednesday around 2 pm during the Council of Ministers and took interim President Michel Kafando and his Prime Minister Isaac Zida as well as some other members of the government hostage.

The African Union, ECOWAS and the United Nations have all demand the immediate release of the hostages.
