Rabat  –  Morocco has declared Syria’s Ambassador in Rabat a persona non grata and asked him to leave the Kingdom, deeming that the current situation cannot continue, a statement by the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Monday.

The statement said that the Kingdom of Morocco, which committed itself with seriousness and dynamism to all Arab and international decisions and initiatives seeking to solve the Syrian crisis, by seeing to it that all chances are given to efforts to halt violence, affirms that the situation in Syria cannot last and decides that the Syrian ambassador is a persona non grata and should leave the Kingdom.

Renewing its call on the international community to shoulder its full responsibilities to immediately stop all forms of violence and killings and protect civilian Syrians, the Kingdom aspires that an efficient and firm action be taken to ensure the success of a political transition towards a democratic situation that guarantees Syria’s unity, stability and regional security and meets the brotherly Syrian people’s expectations of dignity, freedom and development, the statement said.

Morocco follows, closely and with concern, the violence to which the brotherly Syrian people is being prejudiced for over a year now and which killed 20,000 people and injured the double of this figure, in addition to thousands of refugees, the same source said, condemning the upsurge, over the past few days, of appalling killings which claimed the lives of hundreds of unarmed civilians, including innocent children.
