A seller of sex toys has been sentenced to eight months in prison and fined 10,000 dirhams (900 euros) by a Moroccan court for infringing public decency, local newspapers reported Monday.

The vendor, who was not named, was sentenced on Thursday for “importing, holding and exhibiting licentious products and the publication of prints and photos that are against morals and public decencies,” said the daily L’Economiste.

The court also found against the accused for having obtained a health ministry authorization “after having provided false information” on its business that is based in Casablanca, the economic heart of the kingdom.

The seller had a license for the sale of “food products, and used it to import erotic objects,” said the newspaper.

The vendor had apparently come up with the idea of selling such products “after research on the internet in order to find a solution to his sexual problems.”
